Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Sunday said that he was disappointed with the behaviour of governments of Punjab and Haryana towards Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking at an annual function of Himachal Mahasabha, an association of residents of the state in Chandigarh, the Himachal chief minister said that due to dams constructed in Himachal Pradesh not only Punjab and Haryana but the entire nation had prospered. "But I am taken aback by their behavior. It was not expected," he said while elaborating that scores of people in Himachal Pradesh were displaced due to dams being constructed.
He also alleged that central government withdrew some sanctions granted to Himachal Pradesh to promote industry in the state following opposition from Punjab and Haryana. "I am not talking of regionalism. What I say, I say with full authority. I do not blame people of these states but the governments of these states are not imparting justice to the people of Himachal Pradesh," the chief minister stated.
The CM listed out the achievements made by the successive governments in Himachal Pradesh and said that Himachal was not considered a small state now as it figured in the row of top states in the country.
The function was held at Bhargava Auditorium of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, on Sunday morning. Apart from Himachal chief minister, Himachal industries minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Chandigarh MP Pawan Kumar Bansal and city mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan were present.
Singh also said that Chandigarh was an important city of the region and it had emerged as a main centre of education, health and information technology. He said that people of Himachal Pradesh had also played a major role in making Chandigarh one of the major towns of north India.
Bansal lauds Himachalis contribution to Chandigarh
Speaking at the function, Local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal lauded the role of Himachalis living in Chandigarh and said that they had played a key role in the development of the city. He also said that tourism growth in Himachal Pradesh had also given boost to tourism development in Chandigarh. The annual function of the association became a political rally as in his address Mukesh Agnihotri targeted the former BJP chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and his MP son Anurag Thakur for defaming chief minister Virbhadra Singh. In his address, Himachal chief minister also exhorted the Himachalis living in Chandigarh to vote for Pawan Bansal in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
