Himachal man booked for raping student

Police have booked a Himachal Pradesh resident for allegedly raping a woman, after promising to marry her, in Chandigarh on Sunday. The accused, who is yet to be arrested, has been identified as Kapil Sharma (28), a resident of Mandi district, and is married.

Police have booked a Himachal Pradesh resident for allegedly raping a woman, after promising to marry her, in Chandigarh on Sunday.

The accused, who is yet to be arrested, has been identified as Kapil Sharma (28), a resident of Mandi district, and is married. The 24-year-old victim, also a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was pursuing higher education in the city and was putting up at a paying guest facility. The accused is doing a computer course from a Sector-34 institute.

The police said the accused had an affair with the victim and developed physical relations with her on pretext of marrying her.

After the victim discovered that the accused was married, she confronted the accused and was allegedly threatened. After she approached the police, a case has been registered under Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC at the Sector-36 police station.
