Indian Dental Association (Chandigarh branch) in collaboration with department of immunopathology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and AIDS control society, UT, is organising a one-day sensitisation workshop on HIV/AIDS for dentists and dental health care workers on Sunday.
The focus will be to update dental practitioners with the current status of HIV and protocols on careful handling and management of patients.
The programme is being conducted keeping in mind practising dentists and upcoming dental professionals, postgraduate and undergraduate students, the dental hygienists and the healthcare workers associated with dentistry.
The speakers include Dr Vanita Gupta, project director AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh, Dr Sunil K Arora, professor of immunology, Dr Vikas Gautam, associate professor, medical microbiology, PGIMER, Dr Sachin Rai, assistant professor, oral health sciences, PGIMER, Dr Aman Sharma, associate professor of internal medicine and Rajesh Kumar, head school of public health, all from PGIMER.
The organisers have specially invited a member of Lawyers Collective from New Delhi to dwell upon medico-legal issues while handling HIV patients in the clinical practice.
The other topics to be discussed in detail will be a brief about national AIDS control programmes and Government of India policies for the control and management of HIV/AIDS in the country, national testing policies and National AIDS Control.
Organisation strategies for quick and correct diagnosis of HIV, biosafety precautions in a dental healthcare setting, management of high risk exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis and the importance of confidentiality, care and support for people infected with the disease.
