Former union minister Venod Sharma's newly floated Haryana Jan Chetna Party (HJCP) on Friday announced the names of 19 candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections.
Announcing the names, Sharma said while he would contest from Ambala seat, his wife Shakti Rani Sharma would contest from Kalka. He said HJCP’s candidate from Yamunanagar, Vinay Sharma, daughter-in-law of Haryana’s first chief minister Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, had resigned as member of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission to contest the said election.
Meanwhile, the list of candidates released by the HJCP leader showed that Brahmins alone were given about one third tickets. In the list of 19 candidates, there was only one Jat candidate, while remaining belonged to others communities.
On being asked if the tickets were given to Brahmins and other candidates of other castes on purpose, he negated it saying that all the candidates were selected on various criteria, including winnability.
To a question whether there was a scope of post election alliance with the Congress, he curtly replied in negative. “It’s true that everything is possible in politics, but I insist, an alliance with Congress is what would not at all be possible,” he said.
He said the damage done by Congress cannot be undone. “Could it undo the loss it had caused to thousands of youths who were denied employment because of the regional bias or could it undo injustice caused to thousands of youths who were denied jobs because of recruitment system which was not transparent ?” he asked.
He said it was because of such governance that the Congress had a drubbing in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
While HJCP contests on 25 seats, its ally Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) contests in the remaining 65 seats -- 58 candidates for which had been announced by HJC leader Kuldeep Bishnoi on Thursday and remaining seven on Friday. However, Sharma said names of the remaining six candidates of the HJCP would be announced later.
