Hooligans took over the Holi celebrations on several parts of the Panjab University campus on Friday afternoon.
The celebrations started at around noon with students roaming around the campus in cars and on two-wheelers. But by afternoon, it took an ugly turn and those who were playing Holi were seen throwing eggs and tomatoes on passersby in Arts Block and some other places on the campus.
By the time authorities came into action, many of the passersby, especially girls students, had fallen prey to the hooligans.
Some students complained that their vehicles were stopped and they were forcefully given colours by some students. Some faculty and other visitors also fell prey to the hooligans as they were seen throwing colours indiscriminately.
Some students complained that many of those who were throwing colours were outsiders and the university authorities did not take any action on time.
Chief security officer, PU, Anil Monga said, "Though there were no clashes, reports came about some students misbehaving and putting colours forcefully on other students and faculty. Security officials were pressed into service and situation came under control within no time.".
