HP budget quiet on corruption, jobs: Stokes

chandigarh Updated: Mar 23, 2012 13:35 IST

Initiating the debate on 2012-13 state budget in the Himachal assembly in Shimla, Leader of Opposition Vidya Stokes has described it as "highly disappointing" with no focus to check the rampant corruption besides no policy to tackle unemployment.

Terming the budget proposals presented by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the House on March 19, "a burden on the state exchequer" in the absence of enough provisions for revenue generation, Stokes said on Thursday that the budget was amiss over resource mobilization through efficient tax collection system and plugging pilferage of public funds at different levels.

Stokes talked of different scams in her short speech in the House, accusing the BJP regime of not mentioning any mechanism to root it out. She said that during BJP rule, different scams had cropped up but the Dhumal government was undermining them.
