Former Himachal Pradesh DGP Gurpreet Singh Gill’s son Arjun Gill, who is facing charges of attempt to rape and dowry harassment, has moved an application offering to return the cash and jewellery given during the roka ceremony given by the girl’s family if they provided details about it.
Arjun’s counsel moved the application before the court of additional district and sessions judge presiding over the special court for crime against women Anshu Shukla, as the application for his anticipatory bail came up for hearing on Thursday.
Arjun, his father former DGP and mother Nika Gill have been booked by the UT police on the complaint of the daughter of Punjab inspector general of police (IGP).
Arjun has also been accused of attempt to rape and molestation.
He was to get married to the girl on November 30. But, the girl claimed that the Gills had been demanding for dowry after which she called off the wedding. Irked over this, Arjun tried to rape her, she said.
However, Arjun has called it a “misuse of power”, alleging that the girl lodged the complaint after he “refused to marry” over incompatibility.Opposing UT police’s request to conduct custodial interrogation for recovery of articles, Arjun’s defence counsel AS Sukhija submitted, “Custodial interrogation for recovery of articles is needed only in cases where the disputing party opposes. The Gills are ready to return the articles provided the list of the items exchanged is given as the FIR is vague on this front.”
