HP to host Paragliding International Championship

Himachal Pradesh youth services and sports department will organise Paragliding International Championship (FAI-C-II) and Himalayan National Paragliding Championship from October 25 to November 1 at Bir and Billing in Kangra district.

Himachal Pradesh youth services and sports department will organise Paragliding International Championship (FAI-C-II) and Himalayan National Paragliding Championship from October 25 to November 1 at Bir and Billing in Kangra district.


The department is hosting the events in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Tourism department and Aero Club of India (ACI) and Federation Aeronauctique Internationals (FAI). Trial day will be October 22 while competition days are from October 26 to November 1.

The opening ceremony will be held on October 25 at Billing and closing ceremony on November 1 at Bir.

Final selection of the participants for the Himachal National Paragliding Championship and the Paragliding International Championship Bir and Billing India (FAI C-II) 2012 will be declared on October 22.

Invitation to the paraglider pilots in India and abroad will be sent by the youth services and sports department in consultation with the Aero Club of India. Participation is subject to acceptance by the organising committee.

International pilot proficiency instrument of level three or equivalent National will be the eligible criteria for foreign pilots.

The youth services and sports department/Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports Manali will provide rescue, retrieval and safety team during the competition.

Entry fee for foreigners will be 100 dollars and Rs 1,000 for Indian participants in the International Championship (FAI C-II) and Himalayan National Paragliding Championship
Bir and Billing India-2012.

For army paragliding pilots/novice paragliding pilots, the registration fee will be Rs 500. The pilots will submit the registration forms with all details before October 22.

The fee may be remitted through bank draft. Fee can also be deposited online in State Bank of Patiala Shimla-02 (HP).

Himachal Pradesh has been conducting Paragliding PreWorld Cup of International level since 2002 at Bir-Billing every year with the support of Aero Club of India.
