The police, on Wednesday, booked a resident of Rajiv Colony, Sector 16, his brother and mother for murder of 22-year-old woman.

The victim, Kusum, was married to Naresh of Rajiv Colony five months ago in a court. Her parents, who used to live in Sector 56 of Chandigarh, were opposed to the marriage and she never visited her parents after the marriage.

On Tuesday night, she was taken to General Hospital, Sector 6, by her in-laws where she was declared brought dead. Her in-laws told the police that she hanged herself in the bathroom. The victim’s parents, however, did not believe them.

Her father, Raj, alleged that Kusum did not commit suicide and that she was murdered. He also demanded arrest of her husband.

“Prima facie it appears to be a case of murder. We are waiting for the post-mortem report,” said Panchkula DCP Ashwin Shenvi.

On the complaint of Raj, the police registered a case of murder against Naresh, his elder brother Raju and mother Nirmala.

“We are looking for accused and will arrest them soon,” said inspector Lalit Kumar, SHO of Sector 14 police station.

Sources said it appears that after murdering Kusum, the accused tried to project it as a suicide case.

Pages of victim’s dairy found burnt

When police inspected the spot, they found some pages of a diary, written by the victim, burnt while some leafs torn away.

As per Kusum’s father, he had talked to her once on phone. He added that she had apologised and he had also forgiven her. “She wanted to meet me, but that never happened,” he said.
