The local police on Thursday arrested for extortion the husbands of two women journalists, who worked as stringers in Morni.

As per the police, the accused, Harpreet Sharma and Krishan Dutt, are Junior Basic Teachers (JBT) by profession, but they also used to gather news and file stories on their wives' behalf.

The police had recently received a complaint from a forest contractor, Surender, who accused the teachers of extortion. The contractor informed Panchkula DCP Ashwin Shenvi, who formed a team under ACP (headquarters) Adarshdeep Singh, to nab the two red-handed.

The contractor then struck a deal with the teachers. As Surender handed over `30,000 to the teachers, the police arrested them.

A case under section 384 (for extortion) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against them at Chandimandir police station. Both would be produced before a court on Friday.
