The curfew clamped in riot-hit areas of Kishanbagh in Old City here will be relaxed during the day from Monday as no untoward incident is being reported, according to Cyberabad police.

The curfew in Sikh Chavni and Arsh Mahal areas will be lifted during daytime but will remain in force during night hours, a police officer said.

The curfew was clamped on May 14 under Section 144 of CrPC in Rajendranagar police station limits in the wake of communal clashes and death of three people in police firing in Kishanbagh. The clashes were sparked by alleged burning of a religious flag by some people.

Subsequently, police announced four-hour relaxation in the curfew period.

With the troubled-areas remaining peaceful and no untoward incident being reported, a decision was taken to relax the curfew during daytime on Monday.

Meanwhile, Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand on Sunday met elders of both the communities. Seventeen people, including policemen, were injured after some members of two communities pelted each other with stones, damaged houses and vehicles and resorted to arson in some parts of the two areas on last Wednesday.

Ten cases were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act and 23 people were so far arrested in connection with the clashes and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the incident and the role of the accused.
