What is it that you could have done but couldn’t?
Singla: I made a beginning by bringing some major projects and I have to pursue many more. Because of lack of support from the Punjab government, Sangrur didn’t get the rail coach factory, which was promised by the railway minister. Had there been a supportive state government, I would have brought many big-ticket projects.
Why should people re-elect you?
I have confidence that people of my constituency will elect the right candidate on the basis of the work done by their elected representatives. I may not be wrong in saying that no other MP in Punjab has brought so many central projects to his area. I have been easily accessible to people and believe in a positive, pro-people, righteous and God-fearing approach to life. Voters now questions Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa about his failures as an MP. Now it’s up to the voters to elect a non-performing Dhindsa or acknowledge my hard work by re-electing me.
What will be your poll plank?
Like in the previous elections, I would not promise anything to voters. I would simply request them to judge my performance as an MP vis-a-vis Dhindsa’s performance and then vote. I am getting an overwhelming response.
Most of the Congressmen in your constituency are upset with you. They could harm you in the elections.
It is a misconception created by some detractors as well as the Akalis. I enjoy the support of every Congressman. There would be some differences, but by and large the party is united.
Comedian-turned politician Bhagwant Mann has joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Will it affect you?
People need serious politicians who can perform in Parliament. I have shown what an MP can do for his constituency. The AAP has no political standing in Sangrur. Mann stands no chance in the Lok Sabha elections.
