What are your achievements as an MP?
Virender Kashyap: I have been raising the voice of the people of my constituency in the Lok Sabha. I have raised issue of increase in monetary assistance under the Indira Awas Yojana from Rs 38,500 to Rs 48,500, which has further been raised to Rs 75,000. I also raised the issue of amendment in the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, so as to make it people-friendly. I have repeatedly raised the issue of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for residents of the trans-Giri region of Sirmaur. Due to my efforts, a report is being prepared by the Himachal Pradesh University’s Institute of Tribal Studies, to be submitted to the Prime Minister soon. Moreover, I have been in touch with the people of my constituency and allocated funds as per their demands.
Anything that you failed to do during this term?
I have several commitments and all have not been fulfilled due to various reasons. Some issues related to the state government were settled during the BJP regime, but at the central level, several demands are still unheard. Railway expansion was one of the major demands and Himachal has not got much in this field so far, hampering industrial growth in the state.
Why should the BJP give you the ticket again?
I am a worker of the party. After being elected to the Lok Sabha, I have been touring my constituency regularly. I have allocated the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund as per the people’s demands. The BJP is a democratic party and whatever decision it takes (on the ticket) will be acceptable to me. I believe that I will get the ticket as I have worked hard as an MP.
