More than 250 families of the Valmiki community living at Shahpur Begu village under Sirsa assembly segment have decided to boycott the assembly elections in protest against the failure of the politicians to resolve issues of the community.

As per Surender Kumar, president of Valmiki Ekta Manch, “We have been cheated by politicians over the years. They came to us with new promises and after elections they did not return to know about our plight or to resolve our problems.”

“We are not toys in the hands of politicians. We faced many problems but no one came to redress these issues. The Centre and state government have announced several schemes for us but we did not get benefit from any scheme,” he said.

Another member of the community, Dharmender (20) said there are no job opportunities for educated youth of the community and they are struggling.

Meanwhile, people of the community called a meeting at Rania. They decided that if no party would field a candidate from the community they will support an Independent candidate from among themselves.
