District health authorities have sealed two ultrasound machines being operated illegally at a private clinic in Kullu.
District chief medical officer (CMO) Baldev Thakur said that the machines were sealed on October 15. He said the owner of the clinic concealed vital information about the machines at his clinic deliberately from the Kullu district advisory committee when he submitted documents for its registration on March 13, 2013.
According to health department sources, the clinic had obtained the ultrasound machines from Delhi, where these had already been sealed once for being used for illegal sex determination and a case was filed against him there.
"When the owner of the clinic applied for its registration in Kullu, he concealed from the district advisory committee that the case was already pending against him in a local court in Delhi" said CMO Thakur.
On March 4, 2014, when it came to light that a case was already pending against the clinic owner in a Delhi court and he cunningly succeeded in getting registration to run the ultrasound clinic in Kullu, the district advisory committee suspended the registration of his clinic.
On October 15, the CMO visited the clinic and sealed the machines and various documents in the clinic and cancelled his registration.
