Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the purpose of education should not be only to deliver education as knowledge sans a sense of right direction often gives birth of Naxalites and Maoists.
"Naxalite youths are also educated but they lack values which is why they were up in arms against the country," said Singh while delivering his speech at an educational institution associated with a right wing organisation in Sonepat.
Hindu word can't be limited to a specific religion as even according to Supreme Court, it is a way of life, he said.
Quoting some examples, the home minister said, "One can find all religions in our country be it Islam or Christianity as Bharat has accommodated everyone on its land and despite having a glorious past, it had never waged a war on a foreign land."
To the teaching fraternity, he said they their role was not only to deliver knowledge-based education but they should try to channelise students' energy in a right direction and towards good things.
State education minister Ram Bilas Sharma who was present on the occasion lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the country's future was safe in the hands of Modi.
