In a shocking incident, inmates of an old-age home in Sector 15 were administered sedatives, which were mixed with their food, by the staff of the home.
The incident came to light when a staff nurse attending the inmates informed the department of social welfare, UT administration, about the issue on Friday.
Following the nurse’s complaint, the department has initiated inquiry to know the reasons that led the staff to mix the sedatives with the food.
The committee conducting the inquiry is expected to submit its report next week. According to the staff nurse’s complaint, sedatives that were mixed with food and administered to 32 inmates had resulted in nausea and drowsiness.
The staff nurse had alleged that she was also blackmailed and warned by the husband of the resident manager for not giving a complaint in this regard.
Resident manager’s husband Satyavrat Bhosle is also stated to be involved in the incident.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that resident manager Parvesh Kumari, attendant Radha and cook Krishan had administered sedatives to the inmates.
They were immediately removed from the old-age home by the authorities. Warden of the Sector 24 Working Women’s Hostel Neetu Sharma has been given the charge of the old age-home.
When contacted, director of social welfare Tilak Raj said: “We have received a complaint from the staff nurse and are looking into it. We have removed the staff.”
