“The team inspected the offices of the DGSE and the DPI,” a government spokesman said, adding that the two officers arrived at 9.24 am.

Ironically, assistant state project director, inspection cell, Punjab, Satpal Sharma, whose duty is to inspect schools so as to ensure that the staff reaches in time, himself reached office late, around 9.35 am.

Besides these officers, 158 employees of various levels working in these two offices — directorate of education headed by the DPI, and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan office headed by the DGSE — were found absent.
The inspection team was led by Gurpreet Sapra, special secretary, personnel.

Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal has asked principal secretary, school education, Anjali Bhawra to seek an explanation from the absentees, the spokesman added.
