Punjab Election Commission on Tuesday released instructions about the counting of votes and announcing results for the panchayat elections coming up on Wednesday.
Additional deputy commissioners, who were also district election officers, had received orders to comply with the instructions, said state election commissioner Shivinder Singh Brar. The presiding officers under the Panchayati Raj Act of 1994 would maintain the record of total ballot papers and the votes polled, and act as assistant returning officers during counting.
The presiding officers will hand over the copy of the results to the candidates after the voting is over. The returning officers will submit the result to the additional DCs, who will file four hard copies of the result along with a soft copy on compact disc with the state election commission for publication in the government gazette.
