Chasing a modest target of 142, swashbuckling opener David Warner smashed a 44-ball 79 to guide the visitors retain their numero uno spot in the points table and knock Adam Gilchrist's side out of the play-off race.
Punjab's bowlers, however failed to impress on a pitch, which had some assistance for the seamers except the experienced duo of Ryan Harris and Azhar Mahmood with 2 wickets apiece tried to put some brakes on Delhi's scoring.
Earlier, a late charge by the middle-order helped Kings XI Punjab set a respectable total of 141 against Delhi Daredevils after being put into bat by DD skipper Mahela Jayawardene .
Siddharth Chitnis (38) and Azhar Mahmood scored (36) came to the rescue of the home side in their must-win last league fixture as they slumped to 20 for four inside the mandatory powerplay.
Delhi pacers Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav shared seven wickets between them to put the brakes on Punjab's batters.
Punjab lost opener Mandeep Singh (0) in the second over of the match to Umesh, who induced an edge that was taken by wicketkeeper Naman Ojha.
Home skipper Adam Gilchrist (9) departed in the fourth over bowled by Umesh when he went for the pull but only ending up getting a top-edge that was lapped up by Varun Aaron at mid-on.
Paul Valthaty's miserable run in the tournament continued as he was caught by Irfan Pathan at third-man off Morkel while trying an upper cut.
Umesh made the matter worse for the hosts as he got the dangerman David Hussey (3) caught at mid-on by Pathan to leave Punjab tottering at 20 for four.
