Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) supremo Gopal Kanda held a workers’ meeting in Pinjore on Monday where he announced the candidature of Vijay Bansal, who heads NGO Shivalik Vikas Manch (SVM), from Kalka assembly constituency. On the sidelines, he talked at length over various issues, including abetment to suicide case of his former employee Geetika Sharma. Excerpts:

What is your poll plank? What are the issues which you are raising?

Regionalism and caste politics have been invented by our CMs. The state government is not even able to provide clean drinking water. Haryana is number 1 in unemployment, corruption and in goons, too.

Which are the two families you talk about who looted the state?

One is Chautala and company. The other is of Bhajan Lal. None of the CMs was honest.

Why will people vote for you? How many seats are you contesting?

We have got conducted a survey, which revealed that people have no option. There is no political party but only politics. People know that I have reached from ‘Hawai Chappal to Hawai Jahaj’ (I grew from being a slipper seller to running a civil aviation company). Youths are connecting with me. On August 17, we will create history. It will not be a rally (in Jind) but a ‘railla’ (mammoth gathering). We are expecting to fight assembly elections on all 90 seats. We will announce our candidates on August 17.

Are you looking forward to a tie-up with any party before elections?

No tie-up with anyone right now. Leaders will resign from both the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Congress and they will join my party. Rania MLA Krishan Kamboj quit the INLD. He is in touch with me.

How do you see the BJP chances in the assembly polls?

The BJP is nowhere in Haryana. The people were upset with the Congress so they chose Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections.

Why did you fall out with CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda after serving in the ministry?

I do not have family relations with Hooda. I was an independent MLA. In 2009, we had to choose between Chautala and Hooda. Chautala se Raam bachaye (May God save us from Chautala). They are known for ‘goondagardi’. I know them well. So, we supported Hooda. When I talked to the chief minister about giving wages to policemen on par with their Punjab counterparts, he said he would consider it close to elections. When I talked about industrialisation in backward and hilly areas, he took back portfolio from me. This is the attitude (of CM). The present government has not even completed 15% of the promises.

After two months, the DLF-Hooda relations will be exposed. Recently, the Haryana government sold two properties in Mumbai for peanuts. Similarly, they will sell off other properties as well. If we can stop this ‘loot-khasot’ (robbery) we could spend more on welfare schemes.

Will the Geetika Sharma episode affect your chances in polls?

These are mere allegations. Mahabharata was also fought because of allegations. It is also a Mahabharata and we will win. It is a political vendetta.
