A ten-member delegation of sarpanchs from Jammu and Kashmir would meet All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Thursday to discuss security related issue.
"In the wake of killings of panchs and sarpanches, the delegation will be meeting Gandhi," Shafiq Mir, Sarpanch Block Bafliaz, district Poonch here said.
The delegation would leave this evening under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference.
"We received an invite from the office of AICC general secretary," he said adding that the Panchayat members from Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Srinagar, Doda and Udhampur would be the part of the delegation.
"73rd and 74th amendment granting powers to panchayats will be raised before Gandhi. However, the most important will be the security cover to panchs and sarpanchs in the wake of the killings besides their resignation en mass due to militant threats," Mir said.
