The District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar, organised a legal literacy camp-cum-seminar in connection with the World Human Rights Day at the district jail here on Friday.
During the seminar, chief judicial magistrate-cum-District Legal Services Authority secretary Gopal Arora sensitised the jail inmates about human rights. He said every person had right to life, equality and human dignity, and persons and groups were entitled to freedom of assembly, association, belief and opinion and expression.
He said people had rights when arrested, detained and accused, and must have access to courts even through legal services authority. Also protected rights include a healthy environment, housing, health care, food, water and social security.
He also sensitised the jail inmates about the basic human right of free education, right of health and habitation akin to fundamental rights, apart from other basic rights which are human rights.
He also sensitised them about the free legal and lok adalats and permanent lok adalats.
