Jailhouse rocked: Bhondsi inmate killed in gang war

A 29-year-old inmate of Bhondsi jail was killed and two were seriously injured in a fight between two groups of prisoners on Tuesday.

According to the police, prisoners attacked on each other with sharpened spoons and steel rods.
“Monu succumbed to his injuries while on way to a hospital. Kushalpal and Mukesh were injured in the incident,” said a senior police officer.

Monu, was arrested in a murder case last year by the Badshahpur police station team. Three days ago, Monu, Kushalpal and Mukesh who belonged to Kaushal gang had a tiff with members of Badli gang inside the jail premises.

The incident took place at 7am when barracks were open for counting of inmates. Inmates of barrack 3 rushed to barrack 2 where the three were sleeping. “The inmate Monu has been stabbed on the neck and chest with a sharpened iron spoon that was used as knife and some sharpened pieces of glass and iron rod”, said a police officer.

Monu was a resident of Jatu Luhari, Bhiwani, Haryana. His body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem conducted by a board of doctors.

“The deceased had multiple stab injuries all over the body. One penetrating injury on the chest led to his death. There were five sharp injuries and scars on different parts of the body,” said Dr Deepak Mathur, forensic expert at Civil Hospital.

The police have registered a case against 25 people. Vivek Sharma, joint commissioner (Crime), said, “Around15 members of Manpal Badli gang are in Bhondsi jail, convicted for serious crimes. On Tuesday morning at 7am when Monu, Kushalpal and Mukesh were sleeping in barrack number-2, around 10 members of Badli gang attacked them with knife and rods.
