Leader of opposition Sunil Jakhar on Thursday demanded a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to discuss the financial condition of the state.
In a statement here, Jakhar urged chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to discuss the financial condition of Punjab and to lay down the facts on the table of the House pertaining to the grants received and their utilisation during the previous Congress government (2004-2014) and during the current Modi government, besides the funds disbursed to the state by the previous NDA government (1999 to 2004).
Jakhar said the chief minister himself had accepted in the Vidhan Sabha that Punjab suffered from poor financial condition and the state government was in dire need of a special economic package from the Centre.
"People of the state have the right to know about the actual financial condition of Punjab," he said.
He said the Congress-led central government had put Punjab in the category of states with poor financial conditions during the 13th Finance Commission. "But, the BJP-led union government did not mention Punjab in the report of the 14th finance commission (2015-2020)," Jakhar said.
