Six months after late satirist Jaspal Bhatti was dropped as Chandigarh Traffic Police’s brand ambassador, he has been chosen for the honour again. The police had removed Jaspal as its brand ambassador after his wife, Savita Bhatti, decided to contest Lok Sabha elections on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket.
Savita’s candidature was announced on March 1 and two days later, the Chandigarh police passed an order to drop Jaspal as the brand ambassador of the traffic police.
Subsequently, on March 9, Savita opted out of the fray and left the party on March 13. Later, on March 20, she informed UT inspector general of police RP Upadhyaya about her decision and urged for re-appointing Jaspal as the ambassador.
In a press statement issued on September 17, the Chandigarh police maintained that since Savita was no more associated with AAP, there would be no political linkage of late Jaspal with any political party.Accordingly, he has been again made the brand ambassador of the Chandigarh Traffic Police till November 1, 2014, as per the original agreement.
While talking to HT, Savita thanked the Chandigarh police for the decision to re-appoint her late husband and said it was an honour for the family.
UT senior superintendent of police (SSP), traffic, Maneesh Chaudhry said as per the original agreement, Jaspal would be the brand ambassador till November 1, 2014. However, the agreement would be extended if the family members were interested.
