A delegation of Jats met Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar here on Thursday to discuss the demand for reservation benefits to the community. Two Jat leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party --agriculture minister Om Prakash Dhankar and Panipat (rural) MLA Mahipal Dhanda --were also present in the meeting held at the canal rest house.
Khattar later told reporters that the meeting was held in an amicable environment.
However, he said, that the delegation was apprised that the state government had no role to play as the Supreme Court had ruled against giving reservation benefits to the Jat community.
"I advised them to take legal recourse as the issue does not seem to have any political remedy. However, the state government has solidarity with the members of the community who feel that they should be given special benefits," he said.
Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti president Col OP Sindhu (retd) said that the community leaders would continue their agitation for inclusion of Jats in other backward class (OBC) category.
Sube Singh Samayn, Dharam Pal Chhot and Om Prakash Mann were among who were present in the meeting.
