Thieves struck at a locked house in Phase 10 and decamped with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and jewellery valued at about Rs 6 lakh on Monday. Giving details, the owner of the house, Parvinder Singh, who runs a coaching institute in Phase 5, said he and his family members had gone to Delhi on November 7 to attend a wedding party. He added when they returned on Sunday night they found the cash and jewellery missing from their home.
Singh said the burglars apparently entered the house from a rear door whose locks had been broken as the front door remained locked. He said all three bedrooms had been ransacked, adding it was clear the thieves were after cash and jewellery as two laptops lying on a bed had not even been touched.
Phase 11 police station house officer (SHO) NPS Lehal said during investigations it was learnt the house had been targeted by the suspects who were apparently aware about the huge amount of cash and jewellery lying inside. He added the needle of suspicion pointed towards some carpenters who had been engaged in renovation work at the house, adding after the incident was reported they switched off their phones and did not return to work.
The police later filed a case against the suspects under section 380 (theft) and 457 (breaking into a house) of the IPC.
