Medical education and research minister Anil Joshi has appealed to the Centre not to extend the MBBS course duration from five years to seven.

In a letter to the Centre, Joshi has asked the authorities to consider all relating issues pertaining to students before taking such a decision. Anil Joshi apprehended that the extension of MBBS course duration could diminish the enthusiasm among students in medical profession. Joshi expressed the fear that the students could lose charm for the noble medical profession. Anil said there was all likelihood that the students could opt for foreign universities.
