The Punjab government on Friday appointed Justice Jai Singh Sekhon (retd) as Lokpal of the state.
Governor Shivraj V Patil approved Justice Sekhon's appointment and issued orders on Friday evening, a spokesman said here.
The appointment was proposed by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal after due deliberations with the chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana high court and Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker, mandatory under Section 4 of the Punjab Lokpal Act, the spokesman said.
Justice Sekhon has served as a judge in the Punjab and Haryana high court, a member of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, and chief commissioner of the Gurdwara Election Commission.
He was also nominated as a member of the Haryana Jail Reforms Commission.
