The local court on Tuesday allowed Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary to take oath in Himachal Pradesh legislative assembly on January 24. Chaudhary is presently in Ambala jail for his involvement in the Jyoti murder case.
Jyoti, a Dalit girl of Bhunga village of Hoshiarpur, was found dead on a road in Sector 21, Panchkula, on the morning of November 22, 2012, with her head smashed.
Chaudhary, in his confession, had told the police that Dharampal, Gurmeet, Tilak Raj and Paramjit alias Pumma were also involved in murdering Jyoti.
The counsel for Chaudhary told the court that they had written to the secretary of the legislative assembly, who replied that the speaker was available to administer the oath on January 24, January 30 and January 31 of this month. A letter from the secretary was also placed on record.
Chaudhary had submitted an application on January 18, saying that taking oath was his constitutional right and directions be issued to produce him before the speaker of HP legislative assembly on a working day for this. The police also did not oppose the application on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Dharampal, Gurmeet and Tilak Raj were again produced before the court after completion of their police custody and were sent to the Ambala jail. All the accused have confessed to their role in the murder of Jyoti.
Another accused, Paramjit alias Pumma, is still absconding and carrying an award of Rs 50,000 for the information leading to his arrest.
