Kaila spins Punjab to first innings lead

Karan Kaila picked up five wickets to help Punjab secure a first-innings lead of 111 runs in the Col CK Nayudu match against Uttar Pradesh at the PCA Stadium, SAS Nagar, on Tuesday.

Earlier, resuming from 243 for the loss of five wickets, Punjab could add just 50 runs to the score before bundling out in 97.3 overs.

Overnight unbeaten batsman Jaskaran Sohi was out for 61 after adding eight runs to his score. Punjab lost wickets in hurry as tail-enders tried to push the score past 300-run mark.

Chasing, the visitors had a shaky start, as they lost their first wicket with just 11 runs on the board. Amritpal Bajwa provided the breakthrough by castling opener Shivam Chaudhary in front of wicket for nine.

UP then managed a small partnership of 43 runs for the second wicket between Aimas Shaukat (18) and Rakashaan Faraz. The duo took the score to 54, before Vinay Choudhary removed Shaukat triggering a mini collapse.

From 54 for 2, UP were reduced to 67 for 4, with Bajwa claiming Akshdeep Nath (0), and Shubek Singh Gill snaring Himanshu Asnora (5).

UP then lost two wickets on the score off 119 with Zahid Ali (20) and Nagendra Chaudhary (0) departing to leave the visitors reeling at 119 for 7 in 54.2 overs.

Meanwhile, Faraz kept the one end going, scoring a patient unbeaten 89 off 194 balls. Punjab wrapped up the tail quickly to bundle UP out for 182. Kaila took five wickets for 44 runs for Punjab. In the second essay, Punjab were four without loss.
