Young Bollywood singer, Kamal Khan, will perform at the 12th foundation ceremony of New Mehak Cultural Forum (the organisation engaged in the promotion of literary and performing arts). All the top poets of India and Pakistan, besides ghazal and Sufi singers have performed in the past for the forum. Dr Naresh, forum’s president, shares, “Today’s programme will be a very special one for us, as our very own pride of Patiala, Kamal Khan will regale us with his Sufi kalaam, ghazals and filmy songs.”

Coming from a modest family of Reeth Kheri village, Patiala, the prodigious Kamal Khan was born and raised amidst the swar lehrirs of Sufaiana, devotional and ghazals, as all the family members, led by his nana ji, Ustad Maghar Ali, were accomplished musicians in their own right. “But my mother, Sarabjit Kaur, had been my real guru and mentor, who gave me the taleem of swar lya and tal, which stood me in good stead. I still remember her melodious lories and folk songs as if composed by any great ustad. I was blessed to have all music critics at home, where riyaaz was the only option after school hours,” avers Kamal.

“Winning Hero Honda Zee TV Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, however, has given me a national platform and with God’s grace, my songs such as Ishq Sufiana and Akhiyan De Kol Kol are gaining popularity. I hope to do better in the future, as I have 15 to 20 songs in the offing as of now,” claims Khan.

The entry for the concert on October 20 is free.
