As the rescue teams find no trace of bodies of 16 missing Hyderabad students in the Pandoh Dam reservoir and upstream, the Kangra police searched for bodies in the Beas river course from Jawalmukhi to the Pong Dam on Monday.

“We received a request from Mandi superintendent of police RS Negi to scour the Beas river course in the Kangra district,” said Kangra additional superintendent of police Shiv Kumar.

“We have deployed two teams, comprising three to four personnel each, to search for bodies in the Beas from Dehra to Sansarpur terrace where the Pong Dam is situated,” he added.

At least 24 students of Hyderabad were washed away in the Beas River that saw a flashflood after a sudden release of water from the Larji Hydropower project reservoir at Thalout near Mandi on June 8.

The rescue teams, so far, have recovered only eight bodies. There are apprehensions that the bodies might have been swept in the downstream of Pandoh Dam by strong currents. The Beas has shallow waters in the Kangra district and there are possibilities of recovering the bodies in this stretch.
