The Congress has said the intrusion by the Pakistan army in Kargil in 1999 was the result of intelligence failure of the then NDA government headed by AB Vajpayee. It's because of the failure of the then government that the nation has to pay a heavy price with the lives of many soldiers.

Cong MLC Ravinder Sharma said this while paying the tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil war. He said the hypocrisy of the BJP was exposed when the Bofors gun, on which a campaign was run against the alleged payoffs in its procurement and efficiency, proved to be the most effective weapon.

Sharma said besides an intelligence failure, it was the major diplomatic defeat on the part of the then NDA government. He also expressed concern over the frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan and the designs of China in Ladakh and the northeast.
