Kejriwal's AAP fails, but ahead of left in voteshare

Despite forfeiting the deposits in all four Lok Sabha segments, Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party becomes the third largest party after BJP and Congress in Himachal, replacing left, by securing over 2% votes.

AAP replaced left by securing 2.04% votes, while left party bagged only 0.85% votes.

Unlike in neighbouring Punjab, AAP failed to spring a surprise in the hill state, Himachal Pradesh. The main reason behind AAP's below-par performance was disorganised cadre and dissidence over ticket allotment, especially in Mandi and Shimla.

Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Kangra MP, Rajan Sushant, who joined AAP to contest Lok Sabha election this time, got only 24,430 votes of the total 7.97 lakh polled in the Kangra parliamentary segment. Sushant got 3.06% of the total votes.

In Hamirpur Lok Sabha segment, Kargil martyr Vikram Batra's mother Kamla Kanta Batra was polled 15,329 votes. Batra got only 1.84% votes and was banking on Kejriwal's popularity and ex-servicemen's votes, which are in significant number in Hamirpur Lok Sabha segment.

In Mandi, AAP candidate Jai Chand Thakur secured only 9,359 votes (1.29%), while CPM secured 13,965 votes. In last election CPM had secured over 20,000 votes (2.90%).

In Shimla, AAP candidate Subhash Chander secured 1.92% votes, more than left candidate Jagat Ram. Subhash secured 14,231 votes while CPM candidate secured 11,434.
