Former Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has criticised the reported proposal to build a heliport near Badal village.
Khaira said it was nothing but a non-productive, extravagant expenditure for self-luxury by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at the cost of an already depleted public exchequer. "The said heliport in an area of 30 acres, with night landing and multi-helicopter landing facilities, would cost Punjab nothing less than Rs 100 crore. Taxpayers' money cannot be dissipated for personal whims and fancies," he said.
Referring to a news report published on in Hindustan Times on Friday, Khaira said that only yesterday a scam involving Rs 40 crore pumped into Muktsar, the home district of the CM, came to light. "Of the Rs 45 crore under the Social Infrastructure Fund (SIF) to help economically weaker sections construct or repair their houses, Rs 40 crore was diverted only for Mukatsar district for political gains prior to the assembly elections. A mere Rs 5 crore was marked for five other districts, while not a penny was given to the remaining 16 districts," he said.
