Khalin Joshi returned a card of one-under 71 on the concluding day to outdo S Chikkrangappa and win the Indian Golf Union's Samarvir Sahi amateur golf championship at the Chandigarh Golf Club on Friday.
At the end of the final round, Joshi's aggregate of six-under 278 helped him stay four shots clear of Chikkrangappa's two-under 282, and walk away with the title. The winner played steadily to fire two birdies on the front nine.
He then had one bogey but no birdies on the back nine. Chikka had two birdies and three bogeys in his round. The All India match-play finalist, Gagan Verma, reserved his best for the last day. Riding on back of the six birdies (although he also sunk three bogeys), Verma shot three-under 68 to claim the third place with a total of three-over 287.
He finished ahead of Angad Cheema (67), who returned with the aggregate of 293 to occupy the fourth position. Cheema's final round included six birdies and two bogeys. The fifth place was won by former Sri Lankan Open winner Simarjeet Singh. Singh's card of 69 on the last day saw him reach a total of 295.
While Manav Das (75) was sixth, Honey Baisoya (75) was seventh at 297. Joshi picked up 45 points for the win, while Chikka took 35 and Verma 31. Cheema grabbed 29 and Simarjeet Singh 27. Manav Das in the sixth placed earned 24 points.
