During the resumed hearing of the Khuda Lahora rape case in which five UT cops are facing charges of rape and molestation, the accused sought acquittal submitting that no case had been made out as the victim herself had turned hostile and even the medical evidence was in their favour.

The counsel of the accused argued that there was no proof that the victim was a minor and that the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) report also failed to prove the allegations.

Hearing the arguments, additional district and sessions judge presiding over the special court for crime against women Anshu Shukla adjourned the case to November 1.

Five UT police constables-Jagtar Singh (23), Akshay(24), Sunil Kumar(23), Himmat Singh (24) and Anil(25)- had been arrested and dismissed on December 19, 2013, based on the allegations that they raped and molested a minor for months.

The victim in the case turned hostile and failed to identify the accused. While retracting her allegations in a statement before the court, she had admitted to having a relationship with Akshay and denied having been raped.

She also failed to identify another accused Sunil, who was also booked on rape charge, and co-accused Jagtar Singh, Himmat Singh and Anil, who were booked for molesting her for months together.

Saying that she was in a relationship with Akshay, she has told the court that whole thing was blown out of proportion by political parties, social workers and women's organisations.
When she had gone to the police station, it was to ask that Akshay be married to her. But, a different story was cooked up owing to political interference, she said.
