Kidnapped minor girl recovered from Jind village
A three-and-a-half years-old girl abducted on Tuesday last was recovered by Chandigarh police from Rajpura village in Jind district of Haryana on Sunday. A three-and-a-half years-old girl abducted on Tuesday last was recovered by Chandigarh police from Rajpura village in Jind district of Haryana on Sunday.
Police sources said that the minor Harmaini was doing fine, and that kidnapper Jagpal Beniwal fled after leaving her behind at the village bus stand around 6.30pm.
Harmaini, daughter of a Delhi-based stockbroker, was kidnapped from Hotel Royal Inn in Sector 22 by Beniwal, a business associate of the girl's parents Harish Arora and Priya. Beniwal took away the girl as he reportedly suffered a loss of Rs 1 crore through investments suggested by Priya.
Police sources said Beniwal and his accomplice Chinar left Harmaini at the village bus stand before escaping.
Police said that Beniwal had made at least five calls to Harmaini's father Harish Arora since Sunday morning and demanded his money back as also cancellation of the kidnapping case registered against him for her safe release.
Talks between the abductor, her family and police for the release of the girl had begun on Saturday. Police had indicated about the release of the girl in a day or so. In fact, police sources asserted, a deal was struck between the girl's family and the abductor for her release.
Police sources claimed that Jagpal Beniwal and Chinar were in company of at least three persons who were helping them avoid arrest.
Sources said that Chandigarh and Jind police reached the village after some passers-by informed police about the girl. She was made to talk to her parents on phone and was on way to Chandigarh at the time of filing of report.
The family of Harish Arora, Jagpal, latter's friend Chinar along with two sons of Jagpal had arrived here on January 12. On January 15, Beniwal took Harmaini away on pretext of taking a stroll.
It was only on January 19 that Beniwal indicated that he wanted to resolve the issue amicably. It actually became a face-saver for a helpless Chandigarh police, which had been groping in dark ever since the abduction on Tuesday.
Police efforts in the case
Chandigarh police had put more than 20 cops on the job of tracking the minor girl. Teams were constituted under the supervision of DSP (crime) Satbir Singh and DSP (central) Ashish Kapoor. Police managed to recover the girl safely after remaining in constant contact with the kidnapper's family and putting pressure on him. Police zeroed in on the call details of Jagpal Beniwal and questioned all close associates and even associates of the girl's parents. Police put pressure on Jagpal's family to seek the release of the child. The parleys went on till Sunday afternoon.
Jan 12: Harish Arora, Priya, Jagpal Beniwal, Chinar along with their children arrive in city and put up at Sector 22 Royal Inn hotel.
Jan 15: Jagpal along with Chinar took Harmaini for a stroll at 11.30am. Jagpal allegedly called up Priya at 4pm to ask for Rs 1 crore to release the girl. He called up the child's mother from Samana later in the evening.
Jan16: Jagpal calls up the mother from Karnal, asking for money.
Jan 17, 18: No calls made by kidnapper; police teams go to various cities of Haryana
Jan 19: Jagpal called up to ask for money and hinted at amicably resolving the issue.
Jan 20: At least five calls made by Jagpal to her father before leaving the girl at Rajpura bus stand in Jind at 6.30pm. Police operation was on till late at night to nab the abductor and his accomplices.
