With a view to ensure holistic development of schoolchildren, a “meet and greet” event was organized as part of the Viacom 18 school campaign, ‘Sonic Be the Ranger’, at the Hindustan Times office in SAS Nagar. The students not only met their favorite cartoon characters but also had the opportunity to be acquainted with the process of newspaper printing.
Around 50 students belonging to classes 2 to 5 from various city schools were thrilled when they came face to face with their super heroes like the famous Power Rangers and the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles.
Said Chahat Kumar, a class 3 student from Smart Wonder, Mohali: “I was absolutely delighted to meet my toon heroes in person. As soon as I get home from school I switch on my favourite cartoon channels. I love Ninja Mutant Turtles.”
Another student, Manya, from Bharti Vidya Bhavan, Panchkula, remarked: “We had an exam in the morning but, after meeting my bestloved cartoon characters, I felt rejuvenated. It was a dream come true!”
Elaborating on the campaign, Nina Elavia Jaipuria, executive vice president and business head, Kids Cluster, Viacom18 Media, said: “The idea is to refresh these young minds and ensure their overall development. We believe in the ‘touch, play and feel’ mantra and, keeping this at the core of all that we do, we’ve taken the adorable Nickelodeon and Sonic characters out of TV sets and brought them into the day-to-day environment of kids.”
During their visit the students were also eager to see the printing press. “I had no idea how the newspaper that my dad reads was printed. But today I had the rare opportunity to see for myself how this was done and I’m going to tell him about it when I get back home”, said Hardik Aggarwal of DAV Public School, Mohali.
Besides the students, the teachers accompanying them were also exuberant about the visit.
“It’s a great initiative that will help in the students’ overall development. We need to have more such events,” said Rekha Rani, one of the teachers at the event.
