The death of a newborn boy led to protest by a family at the local civil hospital on Tuesday. Alleging negligence on the part of doctors of the hospital, the family has submitted a complaint to the CMO and JJ colony police station.

Kaptan Singh (27), father of the baby, said, "On June 15 at 5 am, my wife Parveen Kaur (25) was admitted to the hospital. She had developed complications, which required a Caesarean section to allow the baby to be delivered as quickly as possible. Doctors decided that they will operate at 8 pm on the same day."

He added that, "Dr Sunita Sihag who was looking after the case did not reach at the time of the operation. We called on her mobile phone but she made some excuses and asked for delay in operation. Till the midnight of June 15, no doctor came for Caesarean operation and my wife was crying with unbearable pain," he alleged.

He said, at around 2.30 am of June 16, Dr Sihag came to the hospital and his wife was operated upon. But she gave birth to a stillborn.

Had the doctor arrived on time, his son could have been saved, said Kaptan Singh.

Surender Nain, CMO, said he has received a complaint in this regard. "We are investigating the case and post mortem of the baby has been done at the civil hospital. We are waiting for report to take further action."

Sita Ram, sub-inspector, JJ colony police station, said the investigation is on and police will take necessary action after the report is submitted.
