Kirron Kher, member of Parliament (MP), Chandigarh, has adopted Sarangpur village in Chandigarh under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojna of the Central government. The MP had visited the shortlisted villages last week to assess their developmental needs and chalked out a plan with the district administration.

Sarangpur has a population of 3,468 with a sex ratio of 717. The literacy rate in the village stands at 73%, with female literacy at 69%. The village does not have a functional community toilet block and the primary health centre is not adequate.

“I surveyed the village, and talked to the residents about their problems. On my agenda is improving the healthcare and sanitation facilities in the village,”said Kirron Kher.

A community centre and sports stadium are also on the cards for Sarangpur. Besides this, the MP is also planning to develop two schools in the village. “They don’t have enough classrooms, and there is a shortage of teachers, not just in Sarangpur, but also in other villages. I will ensure this is fixed,”added Kher.

“Though the village is clean, the dumping ground at the end of the village needs immediate attention. I will ensure that it is cleaned up. It is also the responsibility of villagers to make sure that every single person keeps surroundings clean,”she said.

Talking to the HT, she said there was a lot of scope of improvement in the area. “An e-Sampark centre will also be set up in the village,”she said.
