The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) started its campaign from Sector 42 here on Thursday. Party candidate Kirron Kher first paid obeisance at Sanatan Dharam Mandir and Sri Guru Arjan Dev Gurudwara in near vicinity. She later participated in a road show at Sector 42 ward.
Kirron went to Sectors 42B and 42C and interacted with the locals. She later reached Sector 28 where she met the local women.
BJP Chandigarh president Sanjay Tandon, said, “Sector 28 is the residence of Congress MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, who, even after 15 years in the Parliament, could not usher in development in the city.”
Addressing the women, Kirron said the best part of contesting election from one’s own city was the warmth and support of local people. “The last time I came here, in 16 days I addressed 85 public meetings. I kept following up the work of my colleagues.
When elected from Chandigarh, I will seek your permission to take up your causes to Delhi. People from all strata of society have similar problems which the Congress government has miserably failed to solve,”she added.
To support the BJP’s candidate for Chandigarh parliamentary seat, a colourful event was organised at Sector 32D on Thursday.
Kirron, then, went to the government press building in where she addressed the employees during lunch. Senior leader Satyapal Jain too joined Kher and Tandon.
