The Khalra Mission Organisation (KMO) on Thursday demanded a special investigation team (SIT) to be formed by the Badal government for probing the fake encounters taking place during militancy in Punjab.

Welcoming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's move in Delhi for a SIT to probe all specific cases of the killings of Sikhs in the national capital in 1984, the KMO said it would mobilise public opinion for a similar demand in Punjab to probe around "25,000 fake encounters".

The KMO would begin its state-level drive of serving memoranda to the deputy commissioners across the state from February 4 for forwarding these to the Punjab governor, KMO president Harmandeep Singh Sarhali here said.
