Krishan-Naresh cruise into doubles final

Krishan Hooda and Naresh Badgujar, players enrolled in Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) programme, enjoyed an easy outing to enter the boys’ doubles final of the under-14 AITA Talent Series tennis tournament, being organised at the CLTA (Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association) complex, Sector 10, on Wednesday. Making a short work of MS Karthik and Asav Kumar, the Chart trainees won 6-2, 6-1.The Hooda-Badgujar combo will now take on Sehaj Punj and Dhruv Sharma in the title clash.

Punj and Sharma got the better of Jaskaran Riar and Abhay Mohan 7-5, 6-3, in their semifinal encounter. In doubles quarterfinals earlier, Punj and Sharma had ousted Shashikant Rajput and Bhupender Dahiya 1-6, 7-5, 10-7 in a closely fought encounter, while Riar and Mohan defeated Shrut Mohan Nargeta and Sidharth Sharma 6-4, 7-5.

In the other two encounters, the Karthik-Kumar pair had defeated Jasmol Arora and Sidharth Goel 6-3, 6-4, while Hooda and Badgujar disposed of Akshit Chabra and Vikramaditya 6-2, 6-0.
In the boys’ singles quarterfinals, too, Badgujar had a field day: he defeated CLTA trainee Dhruv Sharma to enter last four. Badgujar dominated the contest from the word go, and raced to a 4-0 lead in the first set.

Though Sharma broke his serve in the fifth game, Badgujar quickly sealed the deal in his favour 6-1. In the second set, Badgujar conceded just three games before scripting 6-1, 6-3 win. In another encounter, CHART trainee Shashikant Rajput defeated CLTA trainee Jaskaran Riar in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Bhupender Dahiya and Asav Kumar, both also from CHART, logged easy victories against Krishan Hooda (6-1, 6-2) and Sehaj Punj (6-0, 6-1), respectively. In the girls’ singles event, CHART trainee Bindu Kulhriya created a flutter after upsetting top seed Nandini Singh in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Another Chart trainee, Priyanka Jakhar, also got the better of Mansi Singh in a one-sided match 6-1, 6-2. The semifinal line-up was
completed after Rahat Mangat and Shrishty Dheer registered contrasting victories; while Mangat defeated Luvya Lamba 6-4, 6-0, Dheer bounced back from first-set loss to down Yamini Issar 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
