With BJP’s Kirron Kher emerging victorious from the lone Lok Sabha seat of Chandigarh, the party officials and workers celebrated with crackers and sweets, giving a brisk business to sweet shop owners in the city. Florists too claimed rise in sale and some of them, who are the supporters of the BJP, made special garlands to greet and congratulate Kirron.

The BJP officials claimed that at least 500 kg of laddoos were distributed among the workers and supporters.

Speaking to HT, BJP’s city unit president Sanjay Tandon said, “It will not be exaggeration if I say that more than 500 kg of ladoos have been consumed by the workers. We have also arranged for a community meal (langar) and all supporters of the party are welcome to join us.”

Corroborating the claims of enormous sale of ladoos, Abhishek Bajaj, owner of Sindhi Sweets in Sector 17, said, “The sale of ladoos is huge as every other customer is asking for it. But, it will be difficult to say that those buying ladoos are party workers or regular customers. The sale is up at all our outlets in the city and I will not be amused if they say 500 kg of ladoos have been consumed. It could be even more than this.”

He added that the city wanted change, and it was the day to celebrate.

Subash Chander Pawa, owner of Maa Durga Sweets in Sector 34, said, “We were out of stock for ladoos by afternoon and many customers returned empty-handed. Everyone wanted to celebrate and with our shop being near to the BJP office, which is in Sector 33, was visited by most workers for buying sweets.”

Balwinder Singh, owner of Uttam Sweets in Sector 34, also said the sale of ladoos was quite high and they went out of stock by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, florists were also busy selling flowers, mostly marigold.

Amit Bhatia, owner of a flower shop in Sector 34, said, “While the sale of flowers is up, I being a passionate supporter of the BJP prepared a garland of marigolds weighing about 8 kg, especially for Kirron Kher.”

Atul Sharma of Jai Maa flower shop in Sector 35 also admitted that the sale was brisk since morning itself.
