The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday issued notice of motion against a lawyer in a contempt of court case and sought his reply.
The suo motu action was taken following an incident reported on November 18 wherein a high court judge had reported “contemptuous behavior” by a lawyer, NK Banka, during a hearing.
In her order justice Rekha Mittal had recorded that the moment she passed the order counsel for the appellant, NK Banka, “arrogantly” remarked that the court had not allowed relief and as such the case be transferred to some other bench.
“He scornfully gesticulated in a contemptuous manner and uttered ‘ridiculous’. His tone, tenor and conduct was contemptuous,” she had recorded further, ordering the matter be placed before the acting chief justice for initiating contempt proceedings.
Justice SS Saron, who issued the notice of motion, fixed the next date of hearing of the case for Wednesday.
