Even as the raid to arrest the accused named in the murder of lawyer Amarpreet Singh failed to yield any result, the police have now arrested father of one of the accused for harboring him.
Police have arrested 45-year-old, Ram Kumar, resident of Burail after booking him on charges of harboring, forgery and criminal conspiracy. Ram Kumar who runs a kiryana store in Burail is father of Rajat, one of the accused named in the FIR registered against nine persons.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, senior superintendent of police, SAS Nagar, said, "Ram Kumar not only provided shelter to his son Rajat, named as one of the accused in the murder case, but also provided monetary help to him. He even provided him with a SIM card on a fake identity proof. A case in this regard was registered at Zirakpur."
Advocate Amarpreet Singh was shot dead outside his house after he had objected to parking of vehicles in front of his gate on February 27.
Amarpreet's cousin Gaganjot Sethi, son of former MC councillor Manjeet Singh Sethi, and his friend Simarjeet Singh, had sustained injuries in the incident.
The police have already arrested four persons - Jaswinder Singh, son of SGPC member from Ludhiana (rural) Ranjeet Singh; Sunbir Singh, son of Dalbir Singh, who is a partner in Alpha Mall at Amritsar; and his relative Omkar Singh. The three of them are in judicial custody while Deepak Kaushal, a law student, is in police custody.
However, the remaining accused, Sunil Bhanot alias Chhoti of Sector 45, Chandigarh; Rajat of Burail; Dharminder Singh of Ludhiana, a proclaimed offender in a murder case; Kevin Sushant alias Richi of Kharar, who is an accused in assault cases; and Vishal of Delhi, are still at large.
Ram Kumar is the fifth person, who has been arrested by the police for harboring an accused. Earlier, the police had arrested 47-year-old Suraj Kumar and his 25-year-old-son Jagwinder Kumar, relatives of another accused Deepak Kaushal alias Gola, who is presently in the police custody.
Earlier, the police had arrested a 28-year-old unemployed youth Amandeep alias Aman of a village in Kurali and 23-year-old Jatinder Singh of Sohana. The duo was arrested for helping the accused by supplying vehicles and money to them.
Case registered against two landowners in Sector 70
Meanwhile, cases were registered against two landlords at Sector 70 for failing to get their tenants' verification done. The police, as a fall out of the lawyer Amarpreet Singh's murder, have started registering cases against landlords, who failed to get their tenants verified, which is a violation of the orders of deputy commissioner, SAS Nagar.
