Even as the police failed to arrest the absconding seven persons accused in the fatal shooting of SAS Nagar lawyer Amarpreet Singh by a group of youths over parking of vehicles outside his house 72 hours ago, lawyers at the district courts abstained from work for the third consecutive day.
Amarpreet was shot dead on February 27 by the youths after he objected to parking of vehicles outside his Phase 3A house's gate while his cousin Gaganjot and his friend Simarjeet were injured in the firing.
Police sources said that raids were on in various areas to nab the accused though a breakthrough was yet to be made. Police have rounded up friends and accomplices of the accused named in the FIR for questioning.
Lawyer abstain from work
The work at the district courts in SAS Nagar remained suspended for the third consecutive day. Members of SAS district bar association held a meeting on Saturday and decided that they would not appear in courts till the accused named in the case were arrested.
“We would hold a meeting again on Wednesday to decide the future course of action. Police have failed miserably to make arrests in this case despite the fact that all the accused have been identified,” said Amarjeet Singh Longia, president of the bar association.
“The son of a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member is involved in the shootout, and thus the police are going slow. We will even approach the Governor as well as the Chief Justice of the high court in case police failed to arrest the accused,” he added.
